La isla de las mariposas by Corina Bomann really liked it lis. The main reason why it has taken me so long to read and review this book is its length. A multi-generational family saga reminiscent of the Thorn Birds.
I have passed it along to a friend who loves epic, historical, books to enjoy. Tested by the harsh realities of colonial life, both girls mature into spirited young msories with a greater understanding of the challenges—and joys—of love, friendship, and family.
BUT I prefered this second book to the first one, I prefered the story and the others characters. The book centers on two cousins, Elaine and Kura, in colonial New Zealand as they transition from adolescents to adults, but there is so much more going on here. The author arranged maorirs HEA ending, but I wasn’t certain that all the characters would be truly happy with their situations in the future.
I disagree with another GR review which said that Sarah Lark’s male characters are either misogynistic or weak. There is a lot of interesting stuff here about the Maori lar, their beliefs and Lark does a good job of transporting the reader back in time and in my case, across the planet.

I am ed enjoying the characters but especially the history of sheep barons and coal mining. And why was she so mean, she killed babies! El kimono escarlata by Christina Courtenay Goodreads Author 3. This is what breaks Elaine’s heart and makes the cousins enemies. This is the author’s cheap shot contrivance to describe flirtation.

Their paths cross in strange ways and as in the last novel it all comes right for the two women in the final chapters. The descriptions of the various parts lsrk New Zealand make me want to visit. Kura was certainly interesting, but she didn’t grow as much as her cousin and co-protagonist Elaine O’Keefe, who was a more likable character.
